Tsuboki®️ Japanese Face Massage

About Tsuboki®️ Japanese Face Massage and what to expect when coming for a treatment

Tsuboki®️

Japanese Face Massage

Tsuboki®️ A facial massage with attitude, suitable for men and women and also known as a Natural Face Lift.

This incredibly relaxing but energising therapy uses Japanese Anma massage and acupressure techniques to help you feel good on the inside and the outside.

A Tsubo is an acupressure point along a meridian. Ki is the energy that flows through meridians. Tsuboki®️ combines gentle massage to the head, neck and face with acupressure work along the 8 meridians that flow through the face. This combination works on many levels at the same time involving the skin, muscles, fascia, lymphatic and nervous systems. Skin and muscle tone can be improved, puffiness relieved and wrinkles can be diminished. Further, the tsubo and meridian work can influence the flow of Ki - restoring balance and wellbeing throughout the whole body.

Tsuboki®️ can be enjoyed as a single deeply relaxing treatment or as part of a regular programme of therapy. For best results to the appearance of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles, a programme of regular treatments is recommended. For further information see below.

Why Choose Tsuboki®️?

Tsuboki®️ is a truly holistic treatment working to balance your body, mind and emotions.

It is the Japanese belief that beauty is more than skin deep and that to be beautiful on the outside you must be healthy on the inside. The treatment works at a superficial level to improve skin tone and lymphatic flow. It works at a deeper level with the muscles to affect muscle tone and appearance. Massaging many of the tsubos improves the condition of the skin, diminishing wrinkles and improving elasticity of the skin. Stimulating the tsubos activates the facial nerves, increasing the flow of Ki and blood to the face. 8 of the 14 main meridians are worked during the treatment to balance the health of the whole person.

The treatment is suitable for both men and women who want to feel good on the inside and on the outside.

Preparation for Tsuboki®️ Treatment

Your Tsuboki®️ treatment session starts with a consultation. If this is your first session with me we will have a discussion about what you expect from the treatment and I will answer any questions that you may have. I will complete a confidential questionnaire with you. I will ask you questions about your health and lifestyle, any conditions and physical symptoms you are experiencing, and details of medications you may be taking to ensure that the treatment is suitable for you, and whether you require any adaptations to the treatment.

At your second and subsequent sessions we need only complete a short questionnaire noting any changes to your health, physical symptoms and medications.

I will then ask you to remove your shoes and to make yourself comfortable on my couch. At the time of booking I will have asked you to remove make up before attending, and to wear a top with straps that can be pushed down in order to access the neck and shoulder area. You will not need to remove any other items of clothing. You will be made comfortable under a blanket and towel and supported with bolsters and pillows.

The Tsuboki®️ Treatment

The treatment is carried out in 4 stages:

Stage 1 : Anma to the neck, face and scalp. Ridoki rollers are also used in this stage. This reduces tension in the neck muscles, face and scalp and increases circulation to the face to improve its elasticity.

Stage 2 : Anma to the neck and face using oil. This is a detailed massage to the whole of the face using small but deep muscle manipulation techniques. This improves the condition and appearance of the skin, relaxes and tones the muscles, and improves circulation to the deep and superficial facial muscles.

Stage 3 : Tsubos and Meridian work. Tsubos on the scalp and face are worked and the meridian lines are stroked in the direction of the flow of Ki. The pressure stimulates the facial nerves and increases the flow of blood and Ki to the face, contributing to the natural face lift effect.

Stage 4 : Lymphatic Drainage. This very gentle technique helps the body to speed up the elimination of metabolic waste released during the massage and reduces puffiness.

Aftercare

At the end of the treatment I will ensure that you are fully grounded and given a chance to rest and recover.

I will give you a glass of water to help with rehydration and the elimination of metabolic waste products.

We will discuss any areas where I may have found tension and any areas where you experienced sensitivity.

I will also give you after care advice on how to get the maximum benefit from your treatment session. You will be advised to eat a light diet, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or other stimulants and most importantly to listen to your body.

We will discuss any plan for future treatment sessions.

Some frequently asked questions...

How many treatments will I need?

Tsuboki®️ can be enjoyed as a deeply relaxing but energising single stand alone treatment.

The effects are cumulative and although improvements can often be seen after 1 session (eg reduction in puffiness), the best results can be seen after 4-5 sessions. Regular weekly treatments are best initially, with monthly top up thereafter. To facilitate this I offer the option to pay for a block of Tsuboki®️ treatment sessions in advance. Pay for 5 treatments and get the 6th free of charge. All 6 treatments must be used within 3 months from date of first purchase and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.

What should I wear/how do I prepare for the treatment?

During the booking process I will have advised you on what to wear. It is best to wear a top that can be pushed down over your shoulders in order to allow access to your neck and shoulders. You do not need to remove any other clothing except shoes. You will be covered with a blanket and a towel during the treatment.

Please remove makeup before attending the appointment. If you are usually clean shaven, please shave on the day of the appointment or alternatively please ensure that any hair growth is of several days' duration.

How long is a treatment session?

For a first Tsuboki®️ treatment session you should allow up to one hour and 30 minutes for the session. This is to allow for the completion of the confidential health and lifestyle questionnaire and to discuss your treatment aims and objectives.

All subsequent sessions last one hour.

My fees are currently £55 per one hour session. I also offer a block of treatment sessions for this treatment only - pay for 5 and get the 6th free of charge. All 6 treatments must be used within 3 months from date of first purchase and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.

Do you need to know my medical history?

Tsuboki®️ is a holistic treatment that it works with your whole body and mind.

I need to know about your health and lifestyle and any illnesses, injuries or conditions that you may currently be experiencing or may have experienced in the past, together with details of medication that you take. The information given is entirely confidential.

I need this information in order to determine whether there are any contraindications that may mean that I am unable to give you the treatment on the day, or why I may need to restrict or to adapt the treatment for you.

Is there any reason why I cannot have treatment?

There are some circumstances when I would be unable to treat you. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Being pregnant
  • Having had Botox, fillers or other procedures on the face within the last 3 weeks
  • Having a skin or scalp infection
  • Acute inflammation and swellings
  • Severe acne
  • Having had a recent head or neck injury
  • Having extremely vascular skin or skin thinning due to long term use of steroids.

Adaptations may also be required if, for example, you suffer from epilepsy or have neck problems or have recently undergone dental surgery.

Are there any side effects?

Holistic therapists refer to "side effects" as contra actions.

Following a treatment you may experience some of the following contra actions: feeling hot or cold; having a slight headache; feeling light headed or dizzy; noticing skin changes (such as reddening or spots); feeling thirsty; needing to pass urine or opening your bowels more frequently; having muscular aches and pains; feeling tired and needing to relax; feeling more energised; having heightened emotions.

Any contra actions will usually be mild and will usually pass within 24 to 48 hours of the treatment.

I will give you detailed aftercare advice to help minimise the impact of any contra actions.
